San Antonio Nursing Schools

Below you will find a list of Nursing Schools in San Antonio, Texas.  San Antonio offers a wide range of degree options for students wanting to obtain a license as a Registered Nurse or LVN (Licensed Vocational Nurse).  All of the RN programs require some prerequisite coursework which must be mostly completed before entering the actual nursing program.  All nursing programs are different and have varying requirements for entry.  To find out more about a specific program, just visit the provided link to that school.

Things to consider before applying to a nursing program in San Antonio are:

How long do I want to be in nursing school?

Programs for RN are generally about 2 years long but prerequisite courses can take about one year for ADN programs and about two years for BSN programs.  This brings the total time in school to about three to four years.

What is my GPA from my prerequisite coursework?

Nursing School courses are no joke! Nursing instructors like to feed you large amounts of complex information that you must remember.  The part where most people have a problem is that they only remember the information.  In Nursing, you must also know how to apply that information to real clinical situations.  It's called critical thinking or nursing judgment.  This is crucial for passing the NCLEX-RN. Give yourself an honest assessment of your study skills and test taking skills.  Most nursing instructors have a "NO MERCY" attitude.

What is the minimum nursing salary that I require?

LVN's make about $30,000/yr - $43,000/yr in the San Antonio area.

RN's make about $50,000/yr - $68,000/yr in San Antonio.

Do I want to eventually become a Nursing Manager or become a Nurse Practitioner?

Most large hospitals have started requiring management staff to be "Masters" prepared.

Also, if you want to go on to do something like Nurse Practitioner or Certified Nurse Anesthetist, you'll need a Bachelor's Degree first before moving onto your Master's program.
